(4,192 posts)Why *do* we have such stupidity beamed at us through TV, radio and the Internet. Rhetorical question, of course. But why, really? We need the truth and we need intelligent discussions to make good decisions. I fear deeper repercussions for humanity because of the games the rich are playing on us all. Cut education, cut health care, cut jobs, cut services, cut regulations that protect us from poisons and unnecessary dangers... no good can come of it, for us and them.

(11,098 posts)The Arkansas Legislature passes nonsense like this every session. The federal courts in Arkansas are used to seeing these and have little problem striking them down. The GOP genius in the Legislature know the federal court will strike these laws but (for reasons that mystify me and appear to be in violation of the legislator's oath to uphold the US Constitution) pass them every session.
Not everyone in Arkansas is a mindless right wingnut. Remember Bill Clinton? There are many of us laboring in unfriendly fields to convince folks the GOP is working against their best interests. Please don't lump us all together. It will be years before I will be able to justify the national Democratic party spending money in Arkansas but I remain convinced that eventually the people of Arkansas will get tired of being lied to.
Lastly, not all evangelicals are Republicans. While there appear to be more right wing evangelicals in Arkansas than liberal ones, not all evangelicals should be damned because some - or even most - evangelicals have not bothered to actually read the Gospels. There are many evangelicals - like me - that come to our liberal politics because we have read what Jesus taught and believe our politics ought to conform to his teachings. Again, please don't lump us all together.

(113,315 posts)as to your last paragraph--one of my dearest friends, who actually introduced me to DU before she died of cancer, was, proudly, a "left-wing evangelical". as were, apparently, most of the members of her church. amazing people they were, who actually walked the talk.
