It is good that it helps with injuries also but it upsets me that they are willing to hurt them in order to get it. Yeah, they put them in a so called nice bath but that still does not take away that they purposely hurt them.

(2,993 posts)I've developed a tradition of including recipes for whatever group we're discussing in class as a handout. (You'd be surprised at what gets turned into a taco.) But I deliberately exclude anything with a high cruelty component (beyond just killing the animal), and I've had to put disclaimers if the animal in question is highly endangered.
It's for entertainment purposes - I don't expect my students to actually make jellied moose nose or lamprey pie - but it's taught me things I'd rather not know. Like the culinary qualities of the hagfish.

I do, however, cover the interrelationships between science, the media, and politicians in my lower-level courses. I try to be even-handed, but reality is reality.
