Teenage Boys Rescue Baby Squirrels

When baby squirrels fall from the nest, teenage boys lend a hand. As rescuers try to hatch a plan to protect the animals from a nearby cat, the boys arrive and gladly climb the tree to return the squirrels to their nest. The mother squirrel seems to be accepting them just fine. You’ll love the footage in the middle of this short video.

I was always told that you never saw baby squirrels and young pigeons because they came from the same larval form. And after they cocooned, themselves they either came out as a full grown squirrel or pigeon.

Silliness aside, very cute.

You have to admire the sad survival instincts of rabbits. Sad, because the maternal instinct is to keep her distance from her young. She only sees them twice a day for about five minutes to nurse. The rest of the time she's elsewhere to draw predators away from her.

I can't swear to it, but I think they even practice being chased, which is why one little rabbit buddy use to bait my dog by coming out in broad daylight and feed as close to the dog as possible.

And the weirdest observation is when a baby fled into the bushes, and another, older one, popped out on the far side of the bush to try to distract us.

We call him a "he", but he's actually a hermaphrodite with a deformed face and almost no natural instincts. Fortunately, grooming and using the potty are two that he DOES have, but fear isn't there. He wouldn't have survived the night if we hadn't taken him in.
