I am a huge Star Trek fan, including Shatner's tendency to overpour himself into his role. However, the whole is bigger than anybody's individual contribution. It is only with time that Roddenberry's clear vision comes to light and the ancillary characters in the cast become more prominent. Thus, Nichelle was advised by Martin Luther King to remain in the cast, certainly a wise move. And we have George Takei, still taking the helm, today politically! We've lost Scotty, James Doohan, however his son, Chris Doohan, has reprised his role in the fan-based series Star Trek Continues. (Highly recommended!!)

Of course, who can forget the other principals, DeForrest Kelly and Leonard Nimoy. Add Checkof and the team is nearly complete. Nurse, later doctor, Chapel (who married Roddenberry), Mark Lenard who not only played the first Romulan in the series but also Spock's father even into the films, and who can forget yeoman Rand, also in the cast through many of the films. Sadly, they are all gone now, however they will never be forgotten, thanks to Gene Roddenberry's vision.

E plebnista indeed.
