(23,322 posts)Keeping our fingers crossed here in Big Sky Country that Rob can defeat Greg "prayer in schools" Gianforte. Rob is a good man and a heck of a musician.
This is an excerpt from a wonderful PBS documentary about the beginnings of the Rob Quist and the Mission Mountain Wood Band in Missoula, Montana.

(86,650 posts)Rob Quist today!
I was at a nearby location applying for a job, while filling out the application in the lobby a man sat near me... when I looked over at him I saw that it was my soon-to-be House Representative! I greeted him and we started talking, just the two of us, about his campaign and it's status, his reasons for running and that I wouldn't mind working for him after he wins.
The cool thing, it's in two parts, is that I let him know that there is conversation about his campaign online at DU and that I try to comment as a constituent when a thread comes up. He grabbed his phone to enter the URL while we spoke. Then! I get home and look at the Home page of DU and here is this thread and another one! Good going, DU! Couldn't have timed that better. So I hope he likes this community here, let's help him ace this election, Montana needs Rob Quist!

(86,650 posts)He imparted that the 2016 election was so "out there" that he felt he needed to step up and do something. He found that he could actually run, and the stat Democratic party agreed. He said that we need to come back to civility in or democracy... I commented that I felt that this was a realization that is starting to become pretty popular around the country and he agreed, I think... we were interrupted by the guy who was going to interview me so that ended the conversation.
So what I got out of it is that he's running for most of the reasons most of us would, because our democracy is at stake as well as our localized values and he can do this so he is stepping up and going for it, I truly admire that. He really wants to represent our collective interests in the state, he "gets it" because, unlike his opponent, he's a life-long Montanan.
The rest of the conversations I had with the potential employer and Mr. Quist had more to them, for me at least, but I don't want to post those parts. It was a serendipitous afternoon and it left me with a positive outlook about this campaign. I asked about the national committee and whether they are in touch with him, he said they are and that last night's Kansas loss was preventable and it seems to have made them take notice. Even though it was less of an upset as anticipated, truly there are a lot of folks waking up to the consequences of not participating.
