His ties are silk and you can't stick a pin through the tie without damaging the material. He could use a tie bar and I'm surprised he doesn't since the wildly flying tie-in-the-wind looks ridiculous.

But, you know, Scotch makes "Magic Tape." It's invisible. It says so right on the side of the dispenser.
