(9,704 posts)I love the women. I love their stories, their bravery, their brilliance. I do so love all of that.
The movie. I'm sorry. I so so sorry. But I was disappointed.
Full disclosure: I built my career in the film industry, and I grew up in the Deep South. My parents were civil rights workers in segregated GA. My problem with this movie is that it ONCE AGAIN is too much about the noble white person. I just wrote a brilliant full-on critique in this post, only to realize that it was filled with spoilers. So I deleted it. Just let me say - I'd really like to see a lot more from the black perspective. This, however, was an omnipotent perspective, one which equates the noble white person with the segregated, discriminated black person. There is a false cleanliness about it. Even the discrimination was clean. No. No that doesn't work for me. It has absolutely nothing to do with reality.
It is a very GOOD movie though. Especially if you don't know their stories.

(9,199 posts)Moving story, great acting, and a glimpse into the circumstances of early manned flight, including the astonishing situation that we entered the space age without (electronic) computers.
This movie is never far from my consciousness, and I saw it over two weeks ago.
