(7,434 posts)as a function of acetylcholine secretions. He has to "get juiced" to put on a show, but doesn't have the attention span for 30 seconds of rational thought. As one who is over 60, I get the "I don't have my reading glasses" excuse. At times, it's legitimate. But that he didn't even BRING his reading glasses (if he has any) to a deposition is phenomenally irresponsible, or it's a crass manipulation that does hide the high probability that Trumpy has a 3rd grade reading level.

(1,107 posts)I believe he is capable of reading, he's just not interested and he's lazy.
I think he's forfeited his cognitive abilities by not using them for so long. Plus as an added bonus since he has requires his lawyers and advisers to do all his thinking for him he can take sole credit for his successes and blame all his failures on the shortcomings of the people he hires and then of course FIRES.
Difficult to imagine a more dangerous person as POTUS and yet here we are.

(2,168 posts)I work in that field and I see warning signs for sure. Also, I live in NY and heard (through the grapevine) that Barron has dyslexia. If true, since it runs in families, it makes perfect sense. It also explains his insecure personality. It's really pretty sad. Now he's relying on Bannon, and trusting that man. Wow.

(5,106 posts)field in education that trains the teacher to recognize reading difficulties, tests to pin down specific problems (dyslexia the most common, but not the only one: sight and hearing difficulties having been the earliest recognized) and developing lesson plans to correct the problems. I'm one of many teachers who've diagnosed this problem (in the general sense) since Trump started seriously running for election and discussed it on line. You may remember one "press conference" in which he badly stumbled and attempted to paraphrase the contents of whatever it was he attempted to read. Trump attended the kind of private schools that, at least in his day, placated wealthy parents by passing their kids on into, often legacy, colleges, rather than dealing with any real learning problems that they might have. Certainly we've had previous presidents with this legacy, but most, even Dubya (I can't believe I'm saying this)didn't have this "business killer" instinct, above all else, including family. Trump seems increasingly a Monster.

(2,168 posts)Trump doesn't conjugate words correctly, and he incorrectly turns adjectives into adverbs. He was a "rabble rouser" as a youngster, and was the only child in his family sent away to school. I'm sure he has ADD as well (which is very common in people with dyslexia).
George W. always fumbled his words, which was a big clue (being that dyslexia is a language based disorder).

(5,106 posts)Come to think of it, he does show all the signs. While no fan of the Bushes, I suspect Dubya had some family recognition and indulgence of learning problems. Trump would just be shipped off to military school, not known as dealing with learning disabilities in those days

(8,409 posts). . . about the executive order that put Bannon on the NSC. When I read about that, my first thought was, "Doesn't he read what he sign?" Never occurred to me that maybe he really can't!

(24,071 posts)..., the "I didn't bring my glasses" excuse seems a rather disingenuous, as Trump has never been seen wearing any glasses other than sunglasses.
