Warrick's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, "Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS," tracks the origins of ISIS by examining five of the terrorist group's leaders, the most important being its founder, Abu Musab al-ZarqawiM.

It is informative. Something struck me at the end of the article at the link...

Baghdadi continues to lead ISIS today — using his knowledge of the Islamic religion to manipulate its messages in an attempt to justify their actions, harnessing social media, much like his predecessor, to spread his reach.

and how striking the similarity in what we have just been witnessing in the past 18 months and with what we anticipate and are seeing clear evidence of currently. I'll highlight the parts that struck me.

This is a pattern that seems rather widespread around the globe and until people learn to understand rather than follow some belief, our species doesn't stand a chance. The consequence that is even worse is that we will destroy all other species as we slip down the drain of evolutionary failures.

are doing the exact same thing minus the militant aggression. Part of their damage is the infiltration of US politics with their agenda, to include the WH Vice and many state and federal legislators. (as you well know)

What rattled me (and I had thought of it before) was at the end of the podcast when Joby talks about the damage of this horrific sustained trauma on mass numbers of people and the young ones. These societies need massive recovery assistance psychologically, spiritually, physically and more. They will not be able to function as a healthy society for generations, it has been so horrific. He talks about how the world will need to help them heal.

I plan on reading his book.
