When he first showed up, his communication skills were a bit lacking.

for old time mainstream Republicans like Steve Schmidt

They give their best, we may not agree with it, but they are
quite distinct from Republicans post-1992 when the Gingrich era
began

Steve Schmidt is one of the people who brought us Sarah Palin. He also began his career in 1995, not "pre-Gingrich era". Hardly "old time, mainstream" Republican. He has much to atone for.

Party has gone off the deep end and need to come back, but the Alt-Right polluting the current Republican Party aren't listening. This will lead to their demise - which, I don't know if that's a good thing.

We need two STRONG political Parties in this country (as our Founding Fathers have designed) in order to lead this country forward. Now it's all about Democrats having to carry the heavy load with Alt-Right Republicans obstructing everything they can, even when it harms our country and our people.

Trump has exposed the craziness inside the republican party. I've always said that it would take a republican to divide the party by getting the crazies to listen. What I'm hoping for now is that the moderates and the extremists in the republican party go to war for the next few years. This, I hope, will make it possible to win back the house. We will then need Hillary to be more progressive and not the establishment figure we believe her to be. We might be able to get some things done if things fall right.

Of course a divided republican party in a position of power could be really detrimental to all. We've seen this with the Tea Party crazies in the house.
