Related: About this forumAl Sharpton Rants On Romney
Al Sharpton really dislikes Mitt Romney and Brendan Collins on the God particle. I find the latter unbelievably interesting, even if reading about it makes my brain implode.

(18,998 posts)Well the book sucked and you probably would not understand it....But Mitt would understand it well...and in fact it is the only kind of life he has ever known..
But yes all is doing what Hanity is doing....no question there...but what should we do...bend over and take it with a smile?
Our biggest problems as progressives and liberals and moderates is that we tend to avoid the stupid and the unpleasant...and so when someone says something that is big lie we just shake our heads and say nothing....and the right wing loonies see that as a weakness and attack more...that is the actions of a bully...and we should never allow the bully to get away with it the first time.....but we have let them get away with it for years and now it is going to be harder to break them of their bad habit...and we may well need to do what they do.
I did read The Great Gatsby. 'Twas assigned reading in high school.
The argument seems to always be, "yeah it's bad, but should we just bend over and take it?" I'm certainly not suggesting anyone bend over and take anything. But why does equally bad "reporting" have to be the response? Why can't the response to someone like Hannity be in-depth, honest-to-God reporting?
Like I said on the show, I'd rather not see fire fought with fire, but better reporting.
Thanks for watching and commenting!

(18,998 posts)And I agree...we should fight fire with good journalism...but in case you have not noticed that started it's decline about the time Cronkite left the air waves and has continued to decline ever sense.
What you are suggesting is that we use tools we don't have.
In reality The Newsroom is just a show on HBO...it don't really exist in the real world....although perhaps it will shame them into something better.
But the answer to why it has to be that way is simple...we have a TV news industry...and the industry has adopted a method...and that method is what we see...and they dominate so their method dominates and they will not permit deviations from it.
It is the fatal flaw of our capitalist system...when and industry gets powerful enough they dominate and protect their domination any way the can.
You're right on all accounts. The Newsroom certainly touches on that desire people like me have for real news. Leaving news to a capitalist structure certainly was a mistake.

(18,998 posts)We are democratic underground because we are able to face facts no matter where they lead and are not afraid of talking about them.
Not the same at all for the freeper people.
