northern lower Michigan. They were so intense, I swear I could hear them buzzing. We lived about 6 miles out of town & my boyfriend and I were necking in his car in our driveway. I looked out the window and couldn't believe my eyes. I pushed him away, got out of the car and woke up my mom so she could see them. Dad was working the night shift for the Charlevoix PD. The way I figured it, I could neck anytime, but those Northern Lights were--literally--a once-in-a-lifetime sight, lol.

I was in northern Minnesota and remember them being so intense one summer night in '69 that we couldn't stop watching.

I'm going north one of these days soon. Sometimes they can be seen from Ireland, but not as dramatic as near the Arctic.
