treated their children back in the day. It's interesting. I grew up in the South & have not lived there for many, many years. Demographic studies have consistently shown that Southern parents favor corporal punishment more than in other areas of the country.

My parents are and were quite liberal. But when it came to whippings, switchings, slaps (usually for talking back), etc, mine were just like the parents of most of my friends. Furthermore, I KNOW my parents received the same kind of punishment.

Many know that those who abuse were abused themselves, so this would support that hypothesis. It's interesting to note that my parents (in their 80's now) recognize the harsh punishments they meted out. I'm not adverse to a toddler receiving a thump on the year to get his/her attention, but sheesh. . . . Pulling that child's hair and using it to pull her through the supermarket is plainly child abuse.

Ironically if anyone treated an animal or adult the way some people get away with treating their kids, they would be arrested immediately and widely condemned as monsters. Yet abuse of children is not only acceptable, but widely encouraged. The usual excuses are usually it's "cultural" or the excuse is something along the lines of, 'my parents did it to me and that's why I turned out OK'.

a woman was there with her kids. She was on the phone, and one of the boys did something she didn't like. She did an cupped hand wallop to his head. The shop owner, my wife, and I all looked at each other disbelief or maybe mild shock.

The boy wailed and put up a show, but then he suddenly stopped and eventually went back to what he did wrong in the first place. Obviously, he was conditioned to the hits, which solved nothing.

When I was a kid, we lived next to a large family, and the parent really hit the kids hard, especially the alcoholic father, a past semi-pro boxer...he could hit. At least two of the boys peed their beds at night, which I found out when we all camped out.

There is so much info out there how hitting solves nothing and creates problems. Good parenting does not always come naturally. The old ways of using the belt need to be gone.

How can cops say if there are no marks it's not abuse? If he will do this in public, who knows what he's doing with no one watching. We know that people have had CPS investigations for less than what this Bastard is doing.

If you did this to an adult or to an animal, you'd be arrested, charged, and convicted. Do this to a child and not only is it perfectly legal, but many encourage it.

mental and physical abuse. It should be brought to the attention of the local child welfare authorities if they have such a thing where this monster dad lives.
