It makes no sense until you consider history. Those two counties are the ones populated largely by white flight from Brooklyn and Queens after WWII.

The new homes in the first suburbs in Levitt Town in Nassau had covenants in their mortgages that forbid the homeowners from ever selling them to black people. Robert Moses, the long-time head of Port Authority and road building, built the parkways on Long Island with low bridges over them so that buses from the city could not pass under them, thus keeping out POCs.

Those two counties have long been hot beds of racism, redlining and repugism.

Not a surprise and not news really.
