(135,425 posts)I gotta say, I'll miss Obama too, but I really, really dislike this abuse of small children in this way.
That little kid has no autonomy over her image or her private conversation with a family member who should be the most trusted human in her life. Now she'll get attention--some of it unwanted--from total strangers, who will opine on everything from her looks to her attitude to her command of language.
I hate to sound sanctimonious, and I will FREELY admit that I am a total hypocrite as I've looked at "kid videos" and laughed at the antics of children along with the rest of the damn nosy, intrusive world, but this, to me, just comes off as exploitative. The kid is trapped, strapped in a chair with a camera in her face. She's unhappy--she needs a hug, not a litany of questions.
I get an UGH vibe. Perform, kid, perform! Ooooh, this'll get hits on YOUTUBE!
I know it's a different world, and children are growing up with a different sense of themselves--no "privacy" and photos and moving images galore. It's a long way from the norm of having your name in the paper three times in life--birth/marriage/death!
We'll all miss Obama, kid--sorry your mom thought it was a good idea to make something "cute-sy" out of it.

(592 posts)it was a conversation she was having with her youngest and she though it was adorable. It wasnt "shopped" around. it got picked up and went viral and those of us who are friends of her are very tickled about it

(135,425 posts)I expressed MY PERSONAL VIEW. I don't insist that you share it (rather like you're trying to do with your view to me).
If it was a "conversation she was having with her youngest" she might consider keeping it in the family and limiting distribution to a closed circle of friends and relations. It is possible to prevent people from sharing a video outside a closed loop. I think that's a good idea, especially when it shows a child in an unhappy or distressed state.
I find over-sharing to be a problem. The child is not given a choice as to whether or not she wants me or thousands of strangers to see her at her most miserable and forlorn. Years from now, when she's in school, she might well be mocked for this little family interaction.
This kid looks VULNERABLE to me and the video makes me uncomfortable.
YMMV--and you're completely entitled and welcome to sit on YOUR high horse with your own POV.
Just don't tell me what to think or feel--that kind of demand never ends well.

(3,688 posts)That's the second child I've seen crying about Obama leaving office. Hadn't seen that anywhere before ... that man is special!
