Polls change constantly, but Trumps convention bounce is a very serious threat. Factor in the turmoil in the Democratic Party as their convention starts, and you start to realize that this bounce might be permanent if the DNC cant repair the damage theyve caused to themselves. Ring of Fires Farron Cousins discusses this.

(68,607 posts)Why do you suppose during the longest primary ever...Hillary supporters wanted the primary to end...for Bernie not to take it to Philadelphia. We knew that there is no such thing as an easy election. We wanted to unify those we could and put it behind us. Bernie could release all his delegates to Hillary...it does not have to be this way. And it is hurting our chances.

(23,423 posts)There was a long primary in 2008, and I don't think it harmed Obama. Some Obama supporters thought so at the time, I think.
I think that this convention could be the culmination of progressive unity.

(35,354 posts)got this idea she can't lose because of white voters dropped from 71% down to 69% or something like that. I say bullshit
Trump is going to win unless they get their head out of their ass.

(3,491 posts)no doubt about it. Millions of dollars in advertising to no effect. Trump makes a buffoon of himself at the convention and the convention is a comedy of errors and he gets a large poll bounce. Granted, you have to wait until mid-August to get the first real read of things, and the first debate matters as well, but as of this moment, it's not looking good.
Please note my concern!!

(2,062 posts)but have a little faith. Look at the demographics.... Trump black vote - close to 0% in many states, latino voters 15% or less, These 2 groups put Mr Obama in the whitehouse both terms.....

(10,418 posts)I do not think enough Democrats are taking Trump seriously enough if DU is any indication. He should be taken as a real threat and treated as such...because he is. That someone like him is actually this close to the reigns of power already is truly frightening to me. He should have never made it out of 2015 let alone be the Republican nominee. In a sane society, that would have been the case. But a good portion of Americans are bat shit crazy and think of Trump as one of their own. Do NOT underestimate him.
