I compiled this video about a decade ago out of frustration over war and the direction this country was headed at the time.
I made it after seeing an election being probably stolen, an attack on our towers, and the response of our leaders at the time.
I saw how our government wanted us to be afraid and buy duct tape and plastic sheeting and pay attention to color coded
terror charts. I saw Afghanistan Transmogrify into Iraq and the stream of falsehoods they used to sell it.
I saw MSNBC fire Phil Donahue (Which had high ratings) because they were going in a different direction with their reporting and didn't want MSNBC coming off as an Anti-war hub or anything. After all, They would have embedded reporters riding along with Rolling Thunder. I saw the cowardice of almost all of our congress critters who all fell in line and voted to give Bush the lesser
authority to invade Iraq.
I saw our presumptive Party Nominee vote for and defend her vote when I and a lot of people just knew
it was wrong and a lie.
And we were right BTW.
Being that it is Memorial day I find it appropriate that this be posted today in remembrance of what happens when we charge toward battle on emotion or feeling. Or when we rush into war because of a narrative.
We watched war unfold live on television! Our glorious strength rolling through a country that had never attacked us.
Pretty live explosions that one could sit on their couches and eat popcorn to.
All that killing but we weren't allowed to see the death.
We couldn't see one flag draped coffin coming home.
Today we honor those who have died serving our country.
The sons and daughters of the poor and the selfless and brave who fought out of pure love of country.
I salute them. And thank them.
In wars people die. In wars of choice people die.
We should remember also the collateral damage of war especially the one we fought out of choice.
Those who died who will never have a flag stuck by their gravestone or even have a gravestone.
How do we honor them? How do we say we are sorry?
How do we make sure this doesn't ever happen again?
This brings me to this clip from the TV show Babylon5. The funny haired guys (Flounder from Animal House) race just
conquered the lizard guys people and they are stuck in an elevator.
Dead.Dead.Dead.
The disasters that inspired everything in the "Everybody Knows" video I made back then were a big part of the reasons our nation elected Barack Obama.
It was why I voted for him twice and in eight years and we have come a long way.
I have health insurance, gays can Marry, we can afford to fill up our gas tanks, and our first lady is Beautiful (Sorry, I get a little starry eyed when I think about my crush), and I would vote for him again if he was able to run.
I fear for the return of the Pre-Obama days or the revving back up of the things that took us to the dark place that we were lost in.
The best way to never repeat a mistake is to never forget it.Own it.
Don't bury it.
Memorialize it.

(2,548 posts)they know. And they do see it as a game. They do "see dead people" and they don't care. It's just a cost of doing business for them. What business you ask? Good question. Pursuit of money? Hunger for power? Uncontrollable willfulness? They have nothing of substance to offer the nation except fear. Fear of anything that seems remotely different....fear and hatred of the OTHER. But what do they fear? That's easy, information. They fear the educated critical thinking populace acquiring accurate information which will lead to critical analysis and their certain demise.

(3,163 posts)You must not be listening. The present administration prates endlessly about the need to continue a drone war and to counter the "increasing threat" from Russia and China.
Those in power want to stay in power, or want their ilk to remain in power, and a cowering public, afraid of shadows is the main way they do it; a public rendered too fearful to exercise reason. A public which takes off its shoes to board an airplane without stopping to think that the shoe bomber was a failed attempt.
Unless you think, not unreasonably, that the left no longer exists, that the present administration is actually right wing and its opposition is extreme right wing?

(18,998 posts)And the end of it is why I voted for Obama twice too.
But we have a permanent state of war instead and we are happy with it because we have a black first family in the white house. health insurance not health care, and gay marriage...all of that is enough for us while trillions are spent killing people around the world.
Yep everybody knows it is all illusion too.
