Tom Cotton Thinks America Isnt Locking Enough People Up
John Legend is right: Prisons are disproportionately black. The worst states are some of the whitest.

(10,252 posts)I'll bet he makes a point of sitting in the front pew at church, so everyone knows he's the pre-eminent holier-than-thou. I'll bet he prays in public too and makes a big show of it. And I'll bet he gives not 1 thin dime to feed the poor or heal the sick. He probably doesn't tithe and cheats big time on his taxes.

(2,065 posts)The private for profit prison corporations! Just like he wrote his infamous letter to Iran trying to sabotage the peace talks just because he was getting money from the military industrial complex, which was bucking for war with Iran. Man - this guy is nothing more than a corporate money robot! His heart has been totally yanked out and replaced with a cash register! He has abandoned all reason and all sense of decency just to bow down to the corporate money monster!

(9,895 posts)The following groups are VASTLY under-represented in prisons:
1) Bankers
2) Hedge fund managers
3) Politicians who accept paychecks but refuse to do their jobs - THEFT!!!
4) CEOs that bankrupt corporations and STILL take millions in compensation
5) corrupt racist police murderers
6) ignorant congressmen
7) corrupt judges who profit from the prison-industrial complex
8) lying oil executives who have KNOWN for decades that climate change was real all along
I could go on and on and on with groups of people who should be in jail, but I doubt Cotton and I would agree on just WHO needs to be imprisoned at all!!!

(14,578 posts)He should be tried, convicted and duly incarcerated for his treachery against everything this nation stands for. He and the other 47 signatories of the Iran letter should be tried for this, and the horrible people who got us into Iraq, had us become torturers and murdered hundreds of thousands of people should be tried for war crimes. When these slime bags are safely behind bars, THEN we will cease having an 'under incarceration' problem.
And let's not forget dirtbags like Shkreli and the other billionaires who have systematically raped our treasury and screwed the American middle class.

(11,428 posts)One thing about the Repugs is that they wear their hearts out on their sleeves for all to see; hate, greed and selfishness. Don't get me started on these fuckers. I have a list of people that should be in prison starting with Poppy Bush and his Administration and from there the list goes down and then breaches off kind of like Danny Casolaro's drawing of the Octopus, and that is just the Washington Hill side of it, the banking and Wall St. list is another.

(559 posts)Can you even imagine how many ruined lives that is. From Wiki:
"Although debtor's prisons no longer exist in the United States, residents of some U.S. states can still be incarcerated for debt as of 2016.[9][10][11][12] The Vera Institute of Justice reported in 2015 that jails throughout the United States have become warehouses for the poor, the mentally ill and those suffering from addiction as such individuals lack the financial means or mental capacity to post bail.[13]"
"According to a 2014 Human Rights Watch report, "tough-on-crime" laws adopted since the 1980s, have filled U.S. prisons with mostly nonviolent offenders.[14] This policy failed to rehabilitate prisoners and many were worse on release than before incarceration. Rehabilitation programs for offenders can be more cost effective than prison.[15] According to the Brennan Center for Justice, falling crime rates cannot be ascribed to mass incarceration.[16]"
This country is so primitive and barbaric and unthinking. GAH!
