... YES. Thomm gives BBC credit for his report.

My take: It's a bitch to live in this capitalistic empire and NOT be able to make ends meet. To some people (mostly men, probably) it means total failure. One feels totally bled of all spirit. You feel like it's all your fault, that you've let your wife and kids and/or parents and/or community down. Every friend you ever had is nowhere to be found. You've dug a hole and you just keep on digging. Life sucks, and then you die.

That's what it's like to fall through the cracks in the richest country in the world. Yes, it can happen in any country in the world, but it's just that much more pitiful when it happens in the USA. And thing is... it SHOULDN'T be happening in the USA. And it wouldn't be if this country wasn't run by cut-throat conservative politician's all the time who always forget about the low one on the totem pole of society, the working poor.

If you've got a friend or acquaintance who might be falling through the cracks or might be in danger of it, reach out to him/her. Loan them a little money, buy them some groceries, take their kids shopping for school clothes or buy them a new pair of shoes if that's what they need, see if they want to talk about their financial troubles, give non-critical advice on financial management. Lead them to some non-profits who will give them some help. Please give them a sliver of hope to hang on to. Check on them. Don't just walk off and forget them.

And work like hell to get someone in office who will pave the way for millions of decent paying jobs again. Bring back the American Dream for everyone, not just for the 1%!
