(15,646 posts)If he doesn't win the nomination, I suspect those people will not vote -- or will write him in rather than vote for one of the two party's nominees. It's an unfortunate situation.
I have always voted Democrat going back to my forest presidential primary in 1973 and up and down the ticket in my first national GE. In all these years, I have only been inspired to vote for a candidate once -- Obama in 2008. Every other GE, 2012 included, I have voted for what I considered the lesser of two evils. And over all of those years, I have seen federal economic policy consistently shift in favor of corporations and the wealthy over average middle class and working Americans.
Bernie is only the second viable primary candidate who has inspired me in my voting lifetime. It saddens me that the system has worked to undermine his primary elect-ability in every conceivable way. If he does not win the nomination, I will be faced with a most difficult decision. Should I continue to be complicit in a system that is rigged against the interests of the common person because, and only because one choice is better than the other, or should I stand up for my principles and cast a protest vote for another candidate. I know from life's experiences that that elections indeed have consequences -- so I am definitely going to vote. At this point, I can't see myself supporting the status quo any longer. So we shall see.
Frankly, if Bernie does not win the nomination, I will probably write him a letter urging him to run as an independent. We need so desperately to break the hold monied interests on our electoral and governance process.
