The subject is soldiers and veterans. Many soldiers and veterans in the audience. The place is Gettysburg, site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, and site also of Abe Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address which concludes with the determination that "government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth."
Sanders quotes that part and does a moving riff on it, that we face similar danger today to government of, by and for the people. He makes his standard platform points but he puts them in context and speaks of them in more detail and with even more passion and firm conviction than he has before. He's very good on climate change. (It's Earth Day.) And in about half of the town hall--answering questions from veterans--the context is widened to war and its costs.
This is simply a great presentation, is very informative about veterans' problems and the problems with laws affecting veterans. A couple of veterans speak--one introducing Bernie and another speaking from the audience--and the moderator Rep. Gabbard is also a veteran.
This town hall should be broadcast on CNN, NBC and all the rest of the alphabet soup of Corrupt Media, but of course it never will be.
THE MAN NEEDS TO BE OUR PRESIDENT. PERIOD. END OF STORY.
And if he is barred--by massive voter suppression, by stacked primaries, by Big Money, Big Oil and Big Pharma, by the Democratic Party itself and its dirty treatment of Sanders, by bought and paid for superdelegates, by bought and paid for endorsers, by the Corrupt Media, by the riggable 'TRADE SECRET' code voting machines, and all the rest of the crap we've seen this primary season, we may well lose "of, by and for" forever. We must change course. We MUST.
