To answer your question - this is a bit of gallows humor. They are probably laughing at the Army.

(4,532 posts)But our tax dollars probably paid to build those trucks so it pisses me off more than it amuses me. Our military is at least 15 times the size of any other. We don't need to be spending so much on it. Especially with this kind of garbage.

(12,586 posts)As a former C141 Air Force navigator, we occasionally had a malfunction on a drop. Fortunately they were "dummy loads" (a pile of railroad ties lashed together), but it was still funny as hell.
One time the drop zone (a farmer's field in NC) was so small we had to make ten passes, throwing out four soldiers each pass. When everyone was down safely we made a final low level (50 feet) pass in our big four engine jet. The DZ controller told us the troops loved it!
You know you're getting old when the airplane you used to fly is in the local military aircraft museum...

(2,212 posts)... did about $400,000 worth of damage due to negligence or imcompetence or both.
My guess is that you had three teams packing chutes, and every Humvee chute packed by one team was botched: three planes, one botched Humvee chute apiece.

(22,037 posts)If the Humvees cost $200,00 apiece and there were three crashes, well, you do the math. Additionally, and equally important, the cleanup will be expensive as will the inevitable investigation and re-training.
Our military has too much money and as death rind wrote above (Reply #2), our country wastes money on defense but neglects our own citizens. We are a pathetic nation in this regard.

(6,699 posts)I'm driving for Uber and Lyft now, and last night I picked up three intoxicated Texans from Houston. It didn't take five minutes before one of the sots admitted he didn't give a rat's ass about the flooding in Houston this week, " because that's why I have a Humvee."
What a complete ass hole. More to the story, but I'll leave it at that. SUV's are bad enough, but Humvee owners seem to think they are detached from earth with the monstrosity vehicles that were meant for military purpose.
I'm a "vehicle bigot". Say what you want.

(22,037 posts)A co-worker bought an H3 which was the more "eco-friendly" Hummer (is that an oxymoron?). She couldn't park it because she had trouble seeing the rear quarters of the vehicle. But the best part was when she complained about how little cargo space the H3 actually had. No kidding, I got more stuff in my Toyota Camry than she could in the H3. Stupid vehicles purchased by questionable drivers.
