Genius Thai Anti-Smoking PSA

'Rather than try and convince them to quit by telling them how bad smoking is, the ad agency instead tricked smokers into telling themselves how bad smoking is by having them try and convince a child not to smoke.'

"In all of country music it seems like the guy has lost his girl, and his truck is broke so he's hanging out at the honky-tonk. Well, my advice is to stop hitting your woman, get out of the honky-tonk and take a preventative auto-care class. There. I just solved country music in one sentence."

I have been virtually attacked by people over the years about smoking. All that did was anger me! Of course i knew smoking was bad for me and the only reason i was still doing it was that I am an addict. The tobacco companies maximise the addictive qualities of cigarettes. People do not stand outside in the heat and cold b/c they enjoy it. These people would come up say to me over and over, "You know smoking is bad for you!". I had a ready retort. If they were overweight, I might point that out and tell them it was bad for them too (I told you I would be angry), but usually I would ask if they ate McDonalds, fried foods, soft drinks etc., you get the picture. To all of those people I now say I am sorry! They usually meant well (although I think some just wanted to preach and talk down to derive a sick pleasure), but this, this is pure genius. K&R!

In Asia smoking is so out of control. So many die each year because they have smoked all their life. I am glad people there are getting wise to the hazards of smoking.. like anywhere it will take time for people to change.. and since tobacco is addictive, to unchain themselves.

I remember seeing an article about ad campaigns featuring 'rich, beautiful, successful' Americans who smoke.

They target young people with the impression that most Americans fit that image.

The reality is that less than 20% of Americans smoke and most of those are poorer people who age and die prematurely due to their addiction.

Don't parents know that children want to do what their parents do?

My grandson is just a baby but he wants so much to be like his dad. Fortunately, his dad sets a good example. He's not a smoker. I'm really grateful to him -- great dad.
