I think it speaks volumes about where people are rooted -- and Hillary's roots are clear (spoken while First Lady).
"I am very proud that I was a Goldwater girl."
and yet, from just weeks ago on CNN, she wonders why there is a trust issue:
"I understand that voters have questions. I'm going to do my very best to answer those questions. I think there's an underlying question that maybe is really in the back of people's minds. And that is, you know, is she in it for us or is she in it for herself? I think that's, you know, a question that people are trying to sort through. And I'm going to demonstrate that I have always been the same person"
________
The same person, indeed.

(1,723 posts)Good question. Hillary is proud to have been a Goldwater girl, Goldwater the Father of Conservatism. As Secretary of State, Hillary appears to have functioned more like a neocon than most people realize. Conservative. Neocon. Indeed, who IS the real Democrat?

(239 posts)To be fair, our parents are a huge influence on our political beliefs when we're kids and though my family thought Goldwater was a bogeyman, there were plenty of people for him. Obviously, Hillary's family. I can understand her being proud of being politically involved at such a young age but not with time, for Goldwater. It's difficult to believe that with maturity, she was pleased and proud of supporting Goldwater. I'd have to hear the whole interview to know what she was really talking about and not just a targeted soundbite.
I kind of envy her that she had a family that encouraged her to do and be more than a stereotypical female in the early 60's even abhor her choice of candidate.
