CBS News contributor and former chief Washington correspondent and moderator of Face the Nation Bob Schieffer joins CBS This Morning to weigh in on why the 2016 presidential race could be a turning point for both political parties. Discussion covers both Republican and Democratic Primaries, so first part is the GOP stuff. FYI

(20,453 posts)Bob Schieffer's comments were perfectly valid, but given his company, it withered to nothing. Sort of like an elephant giving birth to a mouse.
Is this the best of CBS? Jeez... It's rather sad that the commentary could not have taken what Schieffer said and actually "gone with it".

(11,989 posts)You rarely hear a serious mainstream (ostensibly "center" analysis that points out that, not only is it perfectly reasonable for Bernie to stay in as long as he is continuing to win states and isn't running out of money... but that it also makes sense for him to stay in as long as possible to best position himself in the event that Hillary is indicted. The I-word certainly never seems to come up with the talking heads that CNN has for hours on end on every primary day, seemingly discussing every other possible issue that could affect the race.
And it's not like Schieffer is a Bernie cheerleader either... in the same report, he talks about how the Dems are running one democrat and (here's that phrase again) an "avowed socialist."
And it's not just Schieffer, who is himself a respected figure, but the question was set up by Charlie Rose, saying that Sanders will "probably wait for events that may or may not happen." In case it wasn't clear what he was talking about, Schieffer said "exactly" and went right to "indict."
When Schieffer and Rose say on CBS that it's possible that Hillary could be indicted, I think it's time for even the Hillary supporters here on DU to recognize that it is certainly not impossible. It may not change anyone's vote, but at least don't bury your head in the sand. And if it happens after nomination but before election day--as small a chance as you think that may be--Hillary loses in November.

(20,453 posts)BTW, thanks for explaining the code words between Charlie Rose and Bob Schieffer. What a world it is for people to get into broadcasting when the resort to code, eh?

I hope to be on a beach somewhere long before I become that old and crusty, and I don't make the money either of them.

(60,335 posts)I will not work past 65 in my current field. I will be too old and crusty by then. Time to go find a sunny spot in Florida and sit back maybe play some shuffle board.

(20,453 posts)I'm 62, and don't look old or act old. You MUST be way younger... How much?
I've lived in FL and visit there since, and BELIEVE me... It's not gonna have much general retirement community enjoyment left. By THAT age, I can predict, you aren't ready for shuffleboard.
Or, is it just my eternal youth that separates me? Nah... I think you're way younger than 65.

The guy may not be as pretty as he was in his 40's, but he's still an excellent commentator.
Come on...you know you like him. Admit it.

(61,695 posts)do that. It doesn't mean that other elderly men are ready or needing to put their working minds away. Sanders is keeping up an exhausting pace, as he seems energized by it. I'd be lucky to have that endurance at his age.

(24,010 posts)He just won 7 of the last 8 primaries/caucuses, most by gigantic margins, and his poll numbers are only going up for the remaining votes, plus he has an enormous campaign treasure chest given to him by the people of this country--not by the banksters, not by the war profiteers, not by transglobal corporations, not by the Saudis--BY THE PEOPLE.
He isn't the one making a fool of himself with outrageously false 'talking points' cooked by that asshole David Brock. As for "credibility," Sanders isn't the one whom most of the people in this country profoundly distrust, in all polls. He is the opposite--he is the most trusted!
So what is this nonsense you are talking? Do you think Bernie Sanders cares about David Brock's opinion of his "credibility"?
Whatever they say, the opposite is true; and, whatever they accuse others of doing, they are doing or planning to do. --me, on the Bushwhacks, now applicable to the Clintonwhacks.
