Building the Global SOF Partnership
The International Special Operation Forces (ISOF) 2012 conference will be the platform where the USSOCOM Commander unveils his international engagement strategy of "Building the Global SOF Partnership."
The conference objective will be that U.S. and International SOF leaders recognize USSOCOM as a Global Command and gain a better understanding on how to become active partners in that network. This conference (ISOF) occurs simultaneously with the SOF Industrial Conference (SOFIC) which SORDAC in conjunction with National Defense Industry Association sponsor.
ISOF Vision 2012
U.S. Special Operations Command hosts the International Special Operation Forces (ISOF) conference from 21-25 May 2012 in downtown Tampa. This will be the platform where the USSOCOM Commander lays out his vision for the Global SOF Partnership. Invited attendees include Special Operations Forces (SOF) Commanders and Senior Enlisted Advisors from ninety-six countries, as well as the senior leadership of USSOCOM and its Component and Theater Special Operational Commands (TSOC). Additionally, there will be senior leaders from across the whole of the United States Government and the international community. As testament to the potential of International SOF cooperation, the conference will host the first ever live capabilities demonstration of multinational forces held in a major city. SOF operators are from: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Jordan, Norway, Poland, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Building the Global SOF Partnership
ISOF's theme is "Building the Global SOF Partnership." This is composed of mutually supporting partners working to identify and preemptively address problems, and helping to defeat the appeal of violent extremism. In Tampa, International SOF leaders will come together, frame current and emergent threats to regional security, share their experiences in addressing those threats, and discuss how best to build that partnership. The conference will run from Monday, 21 May through Friday, 25 May 2012. Attendees will arrive from the 20th to the 21st of May and will depart from the evening of the 24th through the 25th of May. Each day from the 22nd to 24th May will focus on: "Framing the Problem," "Finding Solutions," and "Building for the Future" respectively as detailed below.
Framing the Problem (Tuesday, 22 May 2012)
Introductory remarks and overview of the Global SOF Partnership by Admiral William H. McRaven
Overview of NATO SOF Headquarters (NSHQ) establishment by Lieutenant General Frank J. Kisner
Statesmen and academic panel discuss implications of "Interconnected Strategic Environment"
Finding Solutions (Wednesday, 23 May 2012)
Panel of SOF Commanders share experiences from real-world operations
TSOC Commanders host breakout discussions among the SOF Commanders of their regions
Building for the Future (Thursday, 24 May 2012)
Commanders' Round Table provides command perspective in establishing the Global SOF Partnership
Shifting from Talk to Action panel incorporates breakout session input for further engagement
Commander's Closing remarks end official conference, encouraging further engagement among partners
Conference Objective
At the conference's conclusion, International SOF leaders will return to their respective countries with:
An understanding of the Global SOF Partnership and how their country can best fit into that partnership
A declaration of a shared "ISOF Vision"
An agreement to seek further engagement
------------
The SOFIC conference promises to provide a forum for collaboration and positive, proactive networking between stakeholders from national and international industry, academia, professional organizations, and government agencies as we continue to build key global partnerships that support the special operations enterprise.
Breakout sessions by USSOCOM acquisition Program Executive Officers, Program Managers, and Science and Technology Managers will explore target issues in current and future acquisition programs. The breakout sessions will identify USSOCOMs top priorities, technology game changers, key enablers, business opportunities, and interests as they relate to current, planned, and future acquisition programs.
In addition to the general and breakout sessions, business opportunities sessions will be conducted with USSOCOMs Office of Small Business Programs, Technology Industry Liaison Office, and other acquisition experts, addressing requirements and opportunities for our industry partners supporting SOF. Attendees will be provided an opportunity to establish key partnerships, gain insight, and hear first hand from acquisition leaders about current USSOCOM and DoD changes and priorities.

(47,675 posts)They did finally tear it down, but since it was closing anyway it made for a perfect spot for that scene.
Also, the car chase through Chicago actually WAS filmed at the full speed the car appears to be going. It wasn't sped up for a special effect. They had to close the entire stretch of road under the rail bridge and after reviewing the first shot of the scene they decided to film it again with people walking in the background to emphasize that it was really filmed at full speed. The first cut looked fake.

(200 posts)Have you ever seen a maple tree seed when it comes off the tree.
It looks like a little propeller.
I glides by spinning like a helicopter.
All most every helicopter can land safely if their engine fails in flight, or is disabled by an enemy on the ground.
The osprey (V-22) can't, as seen in the first part of the video. ( thats the one with 2 spinning rotors)

(2 posts)Since the U.S. and C.I.A. have only ever supported and installed dictatorships, what does it mean to "restore democracy"? Democracy is not in the "national interest", i.e. corporate interest as no money can be made by installing or supporting true, real democracy. We are a government of, by and for corporate power. These NATO operations are not for restoring democracy, but for making sure the people don't get out of line.
In Vietnam, Ho Chi Mihn asked for our help to oust the French and restore democracy. We responded by installing a dictatorship, killing millions, and destroying the countryside.
In Nicaragua, Ortega asked for our help, we responded by creating the contras, and used cocaine money to support them. Millions were killed. Ortega had to go to Cuba and the USSR for help after we refused.
The same story repeats endlessly around the globe. "We" don't want democracy, and it's not in the national interest, so get it out of your head that these NATO forces are meant to "restore democracy". They are meant to restore and install dictatorships. We don't care if dictators kill their people, only if they make us profits. That is what is in corporate charters, to maximize profit. There is nothing in corporate charters about human rights, living wages, environmental protection, or the right of workers to unionize. Until we change the rules by which corporations are chartered, we will continue to live in this nightmare.
