9. Just one thing I can't forgive Chomsky for: coming up with "Structural Linguistics" in the Sixties.

This was a new experiment in breaking down grammar (mostly sentence structure) in a way, to me, that seemed to make it more like math. As a freshman English/Education major who was brain dead on the math side, I just happened to come along at the wrong time. My GPA was knocked down a whole grade level thanks to Dr. Chomsky (and, I'm sure, baby Obama in some way). A year or so later, Structural Linguistics was gone, and practically unheard of when I actually began to teach with old-fashioned diagramming ( as much a mystery, I know, to many "normal" students as algebra was to me).
