The unexpected death of Antonin Scalia came as a shock to all of us, but none more so, I suspect, than to Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who has variously been described as Scalia’s Mini Me and Scalia’s hand puppet. It will be interesting to see who’s hand replaces Scalia’s beneath the robes of the Court’s only black member and whether we’ll be able to see the lips of whoever’s pulling the strings move should Thomas ever utter a word during Supreme Court proceedings. Obviously, it would be wrong to suggest that Thomas is stupid, but his record for raising pertinent judicial points during past High Court sessions suggests he may fit the clinical definition of dumb.
