(6,119 posts)I will never understand why anyone would vote for a candidate who runs on "government can't do anything right, elect me and I will prove it to you."

(4,113 posts)If you're running a business and you're interviewing candidates for a job in your business, and if you interviewed someone who says something along the line of, "I don't believe in your business. I think your business is ineffective and inferior. If you hire me, I will do everything to assure that your business is ineffective and inferior."
Who would hire a candidate who gives answers like that in the interview?
But that's what happens any time these local, state and federal elections take place and they elect the candidate that campaigns on government being inherently bad and wrong. But these same clowns make a career of holding that office and leaching the taxpayer money that pays for that position.

(15,041 posts)a governor and state Republicans poisoning an entire city.
And the vast majority of the people in Flint don't have the means to move elsewhere.
If given full power in Washington, this is the type of thing the Republican Party will do to the entire country.
Governor Snyder has demonstrated why the GOP is a clear and present danger.

(11,086 posts)torture them, special rendition them, start a war with the wrong country, and eventually send SEAL Team Six to deal with their leader. So why don't we send SEAL Team Six after Governor Snyder?

(581 posts)He has the money to do this immediately. Why do voters keep electing criminal Republicans to office, knowing they will get screwed.

(34,582 posts)the solder joining them is. There is an additive you add to the water that keeps the lead in the solder from leeching out. Most cities older than 1970 or so uses this stuff, since they have the cast pipes and lead solder. How much does this stuff cost? In Flint's case it would come out to $9000 for a 3 month supply. That is right- only 9 thousand dollars. They are not foregoing the use of this to save money. They want a catastrophe so they can say "public works are broken, we have to have private industry 'save' us". They are purposely injuring and killing people in order to privatize something that should never be privatized.

I know, right?
Gosh, I'm not into hatred but these guys seem to insist on being hated, like that little POS in a Congressional hearing today... he really enjoys being hated. I'm not there yet but I've been experiencing temporary lapses in judgement at times and fantasize about means of punishment that would be acceptable to darth cheney lately.

(9,427 posts)this was step 3 in the Koch experiment.
1- destroy unions in Wisconsin with ScottyBoy Walker
2- radically alter taxes for the rich and corporations in Kansas with Brownback
3- test controlling population growth in an area nobody notices - Michigan with Snyder

(34,393 posts)to recall politicians (a despicable little law they passed in 2011 after my fellow Democrats threw a tantrum in 2010 and stayed home, thus making these assholes the majority party in the legislature & governor's office. To them I say a big fat FUCK YOU, too.) He will retire to his McMansion in Ann Arbor to live a life of luxury, or get an awesome job with some lobbying outfit. He deserves to be frog marched to jail, then thrown into Jackson State Prison for a few decades, but he won't be penalized in the slightest. Fuck, he wasn't even called to testify in front of Congress.

(34,393 posts)I'd like to extend a great big FUCK YOU to my fellow citizens who re-elected this miserable POS. He is the most despicable politician I can think of, and with the current crop of Republicans, that's saying something. He is a liar and a bagger in moderate's clothing. He belongs in prison, but nothing will happen to him whatsoever.

(6,819 posts)One of the worse elements of this story is that the State Dept. of Environmental Quality publicly told residents there was nothing to worry about, despite there being scientific evidence of the problems from a pediatrician and a Va. Tech. scientist.
I don't know who is to blame for not adding the anti-corrosion chemicals. Those chemicals are commonly used and (as Earl noted) are required under federal regulations.
An EPA official questioned Flint officials about whether the anti-corrosion substances were being used, but the EPA did not specifically follow-through. The Regional Director of the EPA was fired as a result, and new EPA procedures have been established that authorize any EPA employee to publicize public health problems.
My understanding is that the source of the water has been changed, but the lead in the pipes is now leaching into the water regardless of what water flows through the pipes.
