Ted Cruzs upset of Donald Trump in Iowa was predictable, but that doesnt make it any less terrifying for this country. Trump was beatable and Cruz is going to be more of a challenge in the general election.
Ring of Fires Farron Cousins discusses this.

(49,007 posts)But "democracy"? Get real.
Democracy's future is not threatened by coin tosses.
Democracy in the USA has much greater threats: Citizens United ruling, media concentration, internet neutrality (or not), dirty tricks ("voting violation" mailings, for example), fascistic bully boys, pandering to racism & vigilantism, voter intimidation through raising barriers to voting, ....
Coin toss threatening democracy?
No.

(9,350 posts)Farron Cousins is crazy, or he has not done a large amount of research on Ted Cruz. Cruz is a much worse candidate for the Republican Party than Donald Trump. Ted Cruz is supported by a guy who pretty much so believes Adolf Hitler was doing God's will. Do you really think Jewish people will vote for Ted Cruz when they learn that fact. Cruz is also supported by a number of people who think homosexuals should be killed. Do you think homosexuals will vote for Cruz when they learn that fact? I realize the Log Cabin Republicans have voted for Republican who have opposed gay marriage, but have they supported anyone who had supporters who wanted to kill them? Cruz is also supported by people who support bombing Planned Parenthood clinics? That might cause moderate Republican to vote against Cruz.
Scares me but he doesn't have a chance in the general election.
