(1,412 posts)The two-year-old corruption investigation into Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker reached a major inflection point just days before his recall election next week when it came out that Walker had transferred $100,000 of campaign money to his legal defense fund and seemed to acknowledge that he is the center of the probe.

(36,063 posts)that's been pushed on a number of blogs built on an article in the Milwaukee newspaper 28 may.
Wisconsin law suggests (seems it's never been tested) words to the effect that a legal defense fund can be created using campaign funds only if the campaigner (or his agent) has been charged or is being investigated.
On May 28 the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal ran a story in which they reported Walker said the fund would not be used for his County aides who have already been charged.
The logic went those aides were his agents, the defense fund isn't for them...so it must be for Walker.
That presumptions in that logic are hardly airtight.

(36,063 posts)I do think it's an issue that can put a burr under Walker's blanket.

(226 posts)to his defense fund, which is only allowed if there is an ongoing investigation, Walker said the money was not to defend his subordinates, so he inferred is that it must be for himself, therefore the target of "John Doe".
