(111,261 posts)because they're too ignorant to have read the history of the period when those Articles were in force. Dixie, especially, has always regretted moving to a constitutional government, and that's mostly what the Civil War was about. Slavery was only one of the things they wanted to keep without interference from the rest of the country.
Any fucking moron who yammers about "states' rights!" has never read history.
The truth is that the Constitutional Convention was called because the member states were on the verge of war and it was obvious that total self governance with a weak central government that was incapable of doing much of anything when it came to arbitrating disputes because it was toothless was not going to work.
The Articles of Confederation had been an utter and complete disaster. Had they remained in force for another decade, we'd be singing "God Save the Queen" instead of God Bless America."

I think you covered that survey at the time in a prior show. It was about the time the Republicans were defending The Patriot Act and torture.
