President Obama gets a lot of grief about many different things, including foreign policy. Were always told by the Republicans that he doesnt know what hes doing, hes weak, ineffectual, etc. Is this true? Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"A U.S.-led coalition has killed 10 Islamic State leaders in the past month with targeted air strikes, including individuals linked to last month's attacks in Paris, a spokesman for the coalition said on Tuesday.
"Over the past month, we've killed 10 ISIL leadership figures with targeted air strikes, including several external attack planners, some of whom are linked to the Paris attacks," said U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren, a spokesman for the U.S.-led military campaign against Islamic State, also known by the acronym ISIL. "Others had designs on further attacking the West."
One of those killed was Abdul Qader Hakim, who facilitated the militants' external operations and had links to the Paris attack network, Warren said. He was killed in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Dec. 26.*

(18,184 posts)In fact I think Russia's policy of bombing their oil tankers and oil facilities is much better than zapping a leader here and there.
It's just like the piecemeal approach of the Bush era where we had the monthly Al Qaeda #2 strikes.

(6,117 posts)US even dropped leaflets warning drivers to leave their trucks, which they did. Many hundreds of trucks had been destroyed before Russia began its bombing campaign.

(18,184 posts)and the Russians have bombed more. Hence the spat with Turkey who are making money from the illegal oil trade.

(6,117 posts)US began bombing the tanker trucks Nov 15-16; Russia, Nov 18.
There are lots of sources that confirm these dates for the tanker bombings -- NYT, BBC, etc. A lot of that was missed at the time because the Paris attacks had just happened on Nov 13.
Starting a week or two later, various RW groups started pushing the meme that the US had waited until after Russia had bombed first, that Obama was an incompetent coward, and the 45 minute warning to the drivers showed Obama was more concerned about a few civilians than with defeating ISIS. Some sites even accuse Obama of protecting ISIS. In most cases these sites use incorrect dates for the events, for example the beginning of Russian air strikes of any type being used rather than when those tanker specific.

(7,888 posts)I'm a Cenk and TYT fan.
The world, especially those in the middle east, needs to do more to send Da'esh to the gates of hell. A civil war in Turkey will only create more turmoil and refugees. The US is not the world's moral police person. The US did not draw the maps that divide ethnic groups and tribes. I'm not an isolationist, just pragmatic.
As for the bare chested man on horseback, Tsar Putin, it amazes me from the comments there is such a bromance. Putin always has a motive that relates to his own profit. He is a billionaire oligarch. He allows no free press or free speech (publicly he sings another tune, but all critics are silenced, one way or another). He is not a Communist. He is an opportunist. imo
