NA advertisers are practically illiterate. MadMen was a good example of the distance advertising has fallen since the 60's. What used to be about promoting a product has morphed into caricaturing the consumer. And in an environment dominated by consumerism, the need to tell a story is gone.
The 'story' is already there. If you want to be....'smart, free, patriotic, fun-loving etc'....Buy This.
North American advertisers don't waste their time telling a story and even if they could maintain a dramatic narrative for a minute or so, it would still end back at the consumer, for better or worse.
