(11,086 posts)There are at least 4 scientists who dispute global warming, ya know. So it's far from settled. And Sen. Inhofe made a snowball and brought it in a baggie onto the floor of the Senate. Case closed.

(15,715 posts)Much like Bush wanted to be CEO of the US. Just a person who signed papers his aides gave him to sign and say what his speech writers wrote for him to speak. Bush never wanted to have to make decisions, much like modern CEO's do not want to make decisions. They just want the power and the perks of not having to work again.

(53,235 posts)who could have insisted it be asked. He probably insisted it NOT be asked. Cuz when you're one of the five U.S. mass media owners, people do whatever you ask.

(9,425 posts)it simply boggles my mind. I'm tired of sucking it up around my conservative friends and family members - if they open the door for me to unload I smile and DO IT...

(4,259 posts)the Wolf (Blitzer) did announce at the outset of the debate that the evening was to be devoted to National Security, and Isis - (I think he said almost those words}. I remember feeling disappointed at the start because I didn't want to listen to that crap. I don't need to hear them try to out-tough the other guy.
I wanted to hear about the economy, about the ''Trans-Pacific Partnership"
About education, big pharma, and, yes, global warming.
But talking about killing, and retribution, and invasions, and Islam is sexier.

(11,086 posts)The Arab Spring revolts and the current Syrian refugee crisis occurred in part due to food shortages caused by unusually bad droughts. More conflicts will result from people fleeing the effects of global warming.
Plus, the Navy now has to worry about guarding the Arctic Ocean, which is becoming more and more ice free and more and more used by shipping traffic.
Energy security ties into national security, too. How many wars have we fought for oil? (Part of the reason Japan attacked us in World War II and tried to expand their control far south into the Pacific is that we cut off their oil supply and they wanted control of Brunei.) If we can switch much of our energy infrastructure over to solar and wind, maybe we can stop fighting to protect our interests in the Persian Gulf.
Of course, you could just say, "What is more of a threat to national security than the thing that threatens to wreck human civilization?"

(581 posts)The Republicans continue to tell us they do not have knowledge of science, yet none made any attempt to attend the conference and learn from it. This is again a GOP party that continues to say NAY to anything to help this nation, its people or the world. They live back 100 years ago. They are out of touch, on purpose, to destroy this nation.

(14,173 posts)For such an historical global agreement there was not much fanfare at all from the corporate press either. More like an "in other news...." relegation.
