Related: About this forumTYT: Trump And Hillary Agree: Screw Internet Freedom, ISIS Is Scary!
The leading presidential candidates on both the Democratic and Republican side can agree on one issue: freedom of speech on the internet isnt that big of a deal. They basically think terrorism means giving up some fundamental rights. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Yesterday, we wrote about Hillary Clinton's absolutely terrible plan for undermining both encryption and free speech on the internet as a way to "deal" with ISIS. I left out the worst quote of all that she stated in the process, mockingly:
"Youre going to hear all of the usual complaints, you know, freedom of speech, et cetera..."
Free speech et cetera? That's handwaving it away. You can see the whole clip here, of the leading Democratic Presidential candidate who will almost certainly win the nomination...
Her full statement:
Youre going to hear all of the usual complaints, you know, freedom of speech, et cetera. But if we truly are in a war against terrorism and we are truly looking for ways to shut off their funding, shut off the flow of foreign fighters, then weve got to shut off their means of communicating. Its more complicated with some of what they do on encrypted apps, and Im well aware of that, and that requires even more thinking about how to do it.
Shut off their means of communicating? These tools are tools that everyone uses -- and, in fact, which Hillary Clinton herself did a tremendous amount of (good) work helping to spread around the globe as Secretary of State. And now she's trying to cut it all off?*

What part of this is incorrect?

(4,407 posts)Granted, she is not calling for the destruction of internet hardware, but what does her statement mean? What are the likely courses of action she will take? It's either a completely meaningless statement, only designed to project "toughness," or she's going to lock up at least some communication. Terrorists will find another way to communicate. Furthermore, terrorism is by far not a leading cause of death in this country, and clamping down on internet communication is fucking stupid. More to the point it's pure pandering.

(1,192 posts)she could show example by giving back the filthy money she took from the Saudis, the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world. Then I'll believe that she's serious about it.

(6,604 posts)Her handlers must have figured there weren't enough goodies left to appropriate in Sanders's playbook, so let's have a look-see at what's in Trump's.

(16,064 posts)How could any progressive , liberal or democrat even consider voting for ger? Every day she provides more and more evidence that she is unfit to lead this nation.

(18,998 posts)And they are counting on it. That is why Trump is in their, to make Hillary and her conservatism/warmongering seem like a wise choice.

(38,437 posts)"The establishment -- the old leadership -- hate to see him and hear him. But we are sick of going down the same path and nothing getting accomplished. Yes, they want him to go away, but he's here to stay. And every attempt they make to get rid of him makes me like him more!"
Woohoo!
By the way, that was a compilation of quotes taken from a focus group of Trump supporters. SOUND FAMILIAR?

(5,066 posts)both clinton and trump are terrable.
I guess TYT have became the MSM and just conceded CLinton as winner before a single vote has been cast and are now ignoring
Bernie entirely.I haven't seen any video posted that features bernie lately.
