TYT: Marco Rubio: Paris Attacks Were God’s Plan

You might have forgotten, but Marco Rubio is running for the presidency. He was asked recently at a rally, “Why does God allow terrible things to happen?” Ana Kasparian (The Point) and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio thinks the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the recent massacre in Paris were part of God’s plan.

Speaking at a campaign rally last Monday in Iowa, the Florida senator said Christians should never be afraid because God was in control of the universe, the Christian Post reported.

“We are biblically ordered not to be afraid,” Rubio said. “You know why? Because God is telling us that no matter what happens, ‘It is part of my plan. I will give you the strength to endure it whether you like it or not.'”

Rubio noted that he had previously been asked why God would allow terrorist attacks to happen.”*

this man will be the republican candidate for president, and that is Sheldon Adelson's plan, and being a billionaire, he has semi-divine status. Close counts.

it is just like Adam and Eve; they hid from God after they had finished the Apple. They received only consequences.

JFK refused the Apple because there is no forgiveness only consequences for a ruler.

...is the worst, IMO. Attributing devastatingly horrible things to "God's will" is an infuriating cop out.

Eve, chose to eat the apple. Adam, chose to eat the apple so he could have his eyes opened too. They knew that God was preventing them from having something. They gambled, ate the fruits with the genes (Genesis) and found out what freedom was. Freedom equals Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: Not Property, because God sent them out of the Garden of Eden to bear children and work the fields.

the world into existence in a week (a second to him). Wouldn't playing around with Evolution be far more interesting? This is what has always bothered me about true believers. They believe in a god who has many of man's worst human attributes. "Maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep" (James Taylor)

What makes him an authority on God, or anything ?

This metaphysical debate never leads to anything productive.

As I understand it (not an authority on any subject) God rules over the supernatural, which is perfect and orderly. He created the natural, which is inherently disorderly, imperfect (death being part of it) and separate from the supernatural. He then gave it to us (human beings) to rule over as benevolent stewards.
While some of the "terrible things" are simply part of laws of nature, most of the terrible things have been created by US -- not God -- and could be fixed by us, if we had the will to do so. Poverty, famine, war, violence, racism, genocide, disease epidemics, starvation, homelessness, pollution, climate change -- we allow it to happen, not God. We are not children; we have been given power, responsibility, free will, and authority in this arrangement. But it is easier to blame it all on Daddy. God's will is not the issue; rather, it is our (including Rubio's) lack of will.
