New Hillary Ad: '...44 Boys Is Too Many!'

Review from MSNBC (ad video below):

Sounds like Hillary is doubling down on the 'vote for this candidate based on gender' concept, versus 'vote for this candidate based on principle'.

Maybe she is using kids to do the talking, but seems to me this would NEVER be something you'd see if Elizabeth Warren were running for President... Warren would be saying 'vote for me because I'm going to kick some powerful controlling interests' butts in Washington, not 'vote for me because frankly it is time for one of my gender'.

ad:

In case you are wondering if too much is being read into it.... their campaign's own video description drive home their message, noting their "..words remind us there is still much to do to break the highest hardest glass ceiling..."

_____

Hey, I have an idea, why don't we break the glass ceiling of politicians being owned by corporations and answerable to the power elites.... how is THAT for a glass ceiling to be broken in this country?

And sexist.
Reminds me of Goldwater's ad with a little girl picking daisies.
Am hoping it is just as useful, because Goldwater lost.
And if that ad was from Fiorina, there would be widespread disgust here, IMO.

"In fairness, it’ll be good for America’s girls to learn that they too can ascend to the highest office in the land without achieving anything great. Previously that was a lesson for our boys."

A couple of those "boys" held this country together against impossible odds. Whatever else they were, they were not children.

If some Repug ran an ad "Girls shouldn't be president", this place would implode, burst into flames and tip over into the swamp.

And no, hiding it behind cute little girls doesn't make it any less offensive.

My husband thinks that Clinton must have an undercover Repug operative writing her campaign ads.

The ad sucks, but what bothers you is the use of the word "boys"? You know that's what little girls call their male counterparts, right? The line was taken directly from what one of the girls wrote. Did you even watch the ad?

I agree with the OP. What's a shame is that HRC continues to push that people should vote for her because she's a woman. Electing a president is not about affirmative action. Warren wouldn't have to resort to that. It's embarrassing.

If little girls had made that ad then you'd have a point. Otherwise, would you want to be called a child by another adult, especially in a serious context.

It's not cute; it's smarmy and condescending.

That's also why it appears in quotes in the title of the video.

So yes, "little girls" did make that ad. Or at least, came up with all the words for it.

Similarly, re: "would you want to be called a child by another adult" -- No adult is calling the 44 presidents "boys" in that ad.

I've heard variations on this "I want a woman, too, but she should be qualified and not elected just because she's a woman" for so long I'm getting mad. There is ALWAYS a qualifier when it comes to a woman candidate. Then they throw Palin at you, which is just as much a fuck up by male politicians at the time for choosing her to run on the ticket with McCain as it was Palin's.

Personally, I feel that Warren didn't run in part because she thought she couldn't win and in part because she felt she had a good "seat at the table" in the Senate.

I support Bernie now because of his views being more in line with mine and I don't think he is a sexist. But I listen to HRC and to my very progressive husband who says that he'll be damned if he'll never see a woman president. That makes me give more thought to the whole picture...

They're expressing their thoughts. Good for them; they don't have the biases that have been ingrained in the over 30 crowd. It's about time!!!
