Marco Rubio still doesnt understand how the Constitution works, and he now thinks that we should ignore it if it counters Gods law. Rubio and his fellow Republicans hope to turn America into a Christian theocracy by dismantling the Constitution.
Ring of Fires Farron Cousins discusses this.

(6,719 posts)I doubt they have actually carefully read either one. I see no evidence that they have read either one but I am willing to be wrong.

(2,382 posts)... caveman said to the big thug caveman, "Okay, you be the government and I'll be religion, and we'll have 'em all by the short curlies!" evil people have exploited people's desperate need to BELIEVE in something - ANYTHING - to explain things they cannot comprehend.

(10,125 posts)First amendment of the US Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
What's commander in chief Rubio going to do when he feels it's time to slaughter some Syrian civilians as collateral damage for terrorism and his God says "thou shall not kill!!" ? His head is going to explode.
I think he's the whack-job with the best shot for the GOP. Pretty scary stuff.

(9,895 posts)First of all, despite any protestations from the RWNJs, America is not and never was a "Christian" Nation...what does that even MEAN? How many different "flavors" of Jeebus are there anyway?
Is America a Lutheran nation? a Catholic nation? a Quaker nation? a Mormon nation? a Baptist nation? a Methodist nation? a Pentecostal nation? a greedy-ass TV preacher nation?
Secondly, the position is PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, and the oath is:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
If you cannot even get the very first thing a president can do right, why should ANYONE with a pulse, a brain and 3 functioning brain cells vote for your craven, pandering, unqualified ass?

(5,364 posts)I've asked the fundies that beset my daily life pretty much the same as you ask
"Is America a Lutheran nation? a Catholic nation? a Quaker nation? a Mormon nation? a Baptist nation? a Methodist nation? a Pentecostal nation? a greedy-ass TV preacher nation?"
They have no sense of the balkanization that exists within ( and I like the way you put this ) the "many flavors of Jeebus", but will no doubt welcome a holy war to sort out the sub sects.

(4,695 posts)Christ threw the money changers out of the synagogue (read the New Testament).
The forefathers who wrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights realized from reading the Bible that we as a nation and a people are to keep Faith and Law, separated. The bible teaches that when Christ returns, to reign on Earth, that - Christ - will unite Church/Faith and State/Law.
IMO, through inference, the Bible actually teaches AGAINST the ruling of people by Theocracy.
Who taught the separation of Faith and Law? Moses. Moses taught in the Old Testament, and Paul, in the New Testament. Paul taught that the teachings of Moses were to be observed by rulers of all nations and to every wind. Paul had multicultural parents so he understood faith and laws, of both the Gentiles and the Jews (read the Book of Corinthians, in the New Testament).
