She breathes to a certain rate and ratio of "in/out"... And when she's afflicted like her inhabitants, the cycles of "in/out" change, erupt, make a shift in her rate, ratio of what we see here.

Just a perspective from a respiratory therapist who wants to heal what ancient Greeks referred to as, Gaia as much as my every day patients.
