Currently more than thirty governors across the country are against the federal government allowing Syrian refugees to settle inside of their states (even thought they dont actually have the power to prevent this). One of the first governors to publicly oppose this was Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. Ana Kasparian (The Point), John Iadarola (Think Tank), and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show Podcast), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"According to the Obama administration, which has stated that it hopes to resettle at least 10,000 Syrian refugees, more than 180 cities and towns have expressed willingness to accept refugees, despite the recent groundswell of opposition from some governors. The U.S. has accepted more than 2,100 refugees from Syria since 2012, most of them in the last year.
In Michigan, a state with a large population of Muslims, Gov. Rick Snyder on Sunday noted that the state has a "rich history of immigration" and that extremists "do not reflect the peaceful ways of people of Middle Eastern descent here and around the world."
But, Snyder added, our first priority is protecting the safety of our residents.
Michigan will temporarily halt its efforts to accept new refugees until they are able to work with the federal government to review the procedures in place for screening applicants. The move does not single out any specific group of refugees and it would not affect any refugees who are already on their way to the state, a spokesman for Snyder's office said.*

(4,113 posts)The disgusting part of this whole scenario is the 800-lb gorilla - Why are there refugees? It's because the U.S. is leading attacks on Middle Eastern countries, indiscriminately blowing things up and killing innocent people in the process. Those who survive are the refugees.
We're causing this mess, but we gin up the dumbass bigots in this country by making these refugees out to be this mass group of terrorists who will cause nothing but death and destruction if we let them in our country. Never mind other countries are doing their part and allowing Syrians in their countries, including France, who probably has as much reason as any country to close its borders.
The U.S. goes around strutting like a big peacock, acting like it's this macho he-man country that takes no crap from nobody. Truth is, we're afraid of our own shadows. And we let glorified idiots like Trump, Cruz, Carson and Huckabee be our voices.
I loved a sarcastic post from a few days ago on why we shouldn't allow Syrians in this country and have access to guns and other freedoms we enjoy: They may go into schools, churches, theaters and other public forums and commit mass shootings on Americans. Oh wait!.....
