FDR's Second Bill of Rights and Sen. Bernie Sanders Speech Today at Georgetown Univ. 2 PM

President Franklin D. Roosevelt called for a Second Bill of Rights on Jan. 11, 1944 in a State of the Union radio address to the nation. The rights of Americans that FDR proposed included a useful job, a decent home, good education and medical care regardless of station, race or creed. The democratic president elected 4 terms in office led the country through the Great Depression with landmark legislation known as the New Deal and defeated the forces of fascism in the Second World War. Roosevelt died April 12, 1945 before living to see implementation of the American Second Bill of Rights.

Today Sen. Bernie Sanders will deliver an address on democratic socialism and his vision for creating an American future based on economic and social justice at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The speech will be held at 2 PM ET.
At a time of record income and wealth inequality, Sanders will highlight FDR's Bill of Rights and believes as Roosevelt did that Americans should embrace the right to a job with a living wage; health care; education; social security; housing and freedom from unfair competition and monopolies. Sanders speech will also include specific ideas on U.S. foreign policy, how the U.S. can lead the world in defeating ISIS and a long-term strategy to promote a safer, more peaceful world.
The speech can be viewed online LIVE stream @ politics.georgetown.edu.
