They have an easy-going sauciness totally absent in modern American culture, and I consider it a sign of their culture's overall health. Not long ago, a friend of mine had some Aussie friends visiting over here, and within the first week, they stated that you could see how stressed out Americans are just by looking at their faces. People here, they said, don't have relaxed faces or easy laughs; everyone looks like they're one medical bill away from bankruptcy, one missed car payment away from losing the car, and have no idea how they're going to pay for their children's college.

Hard to argue with the observation because for a majority of Americans, that's pretty much the state of affairs. It just never occurred to me that it was written on our faces. I've grown numb to it, I guess.
