In particular, asking "yes/no questions without time to provide a substantive answer" usually lowers the level of the exchange.

Confrontational "yes" or "no" questions without allowing a person to qualify their answer is just drama and doesn't help voters understand candidates positions. Not allowing the candidates to directly question each other cuts down on the media circus of it all. And making candidates raise their hands infantilizes them. And as to the temperature - that's just smart politics. NOBODY wants to be appear on television sweating profusely under hot lights. I don't blame anyone on that request.

I was expecting really outrageous demands and these seem reasonable.

I do think the media tries to turn it all into a circus for the sake of their ratings. For instance, it seemed like a good portion of the Democratic debate was geared toward trying to start a food fight between Clinton and Sanders. That helps voters not at all.

What I'd really like to see is classic style debates where the candidates debate the issues, put forth their policies and solutions on those issues, and debate the merits of their stances and their solutions.

The only time candidate-to-candidate dialog should be allowed is during a two party debate. Then there is still a possibility for abuse. Moderators need to be fair and in charge at all times.

Congress.

Same thing folks, let's stand up for our beliefs.

Like this war against the ex-Iraqi military (aka ISIL), it's pointless and really is about taking out Assad as detailed in GWB's "axis of evil" speech.

Also, GOP writing notes with their behinds might explain a lot.

Note to EarlG: you might want to edit the final item; "Keep the temperature in the hall below 67 degrees" seems to cover it.

GOP Presidential Candidates Demand Debate Ponies
http://www.theniladmirari.com/2015/11/gop-presidential-candidates-demand-debate-ponies.html

WASHINGTON (The Nil Admirari) - Today, staffers representing most of the Republican presidential candidates met to discuss the demands they will make of all future debates, but the meeting quickly focused on ponies. Staffers agreed every candidate should have a debate animal to sit on, and a majority of the presidential campaigns voted for debate ponies.

Tell the whining Republicans their debates are all canceled, no more network coverage since they won't follow the networks' rules.

And fill that time with extra Democratic debates instead.

That would get them to crawl back and tuck tails between legs.
