TYT: Bristol Palin Thinks Ahmed Mohamed White House Visit Demonizes Cops

Bristol Palin has chimed in on Ahmed Mohamed getting arrested for building a clock and bringing it to school. Her focus centered on President Obama inviting the teen to the White House. She thinks it plays into Black Lives Matter and victimhood. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian (The Point), Jaclyn Glenn (JaclynGlenn), and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

Are you upset that Ahmed Mohamed was invited to the White House by the President? Why is Bristol so upset? Let us know in the comments below.

“Bristol Palin is slamming President Obama for inviting to the White House a 14-year-old student arrested after bringing a homemade clock to school, saying the move “encourages more racial strife.”

Ahmed Mohamed, a Muslim student living in Irving, Texas, was suspended from school after teachers at his high school mistook his clock for a bomb. No charges were filed against the ninth-grader.

“This is the kind of stuff Obama needs to STAY out of,” Palin, the 24-year-old daughter of former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, wrote in a Thursday blog post the day after Obama invited Mohamed to the White House via a tweet.

“This encourages more racial strife that is already going on with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ crowd and encourages victimhood,” wrote Palin, a “Dancing With the Stars” alum.”

The philosophy of fear mistrusts Ahmed because he has brown skin and is Muslim. Many who teach him know he's really smart, but still fear him. Then he brings a clock to school that he built. They fear the clock. They call the cops. The cops must immediately recognize it isn't a bomb, because they don't evacuate the school; nonetheless, they detain the kid, cuff him and lead him out of the school, publicly embarrassing him.

Obama, the people at MIT and others around the nation represent the American philosophy of inclusiveness, of trying to get along with each other. This is the philosophy behind the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act and other legislation that keeps us from treating those who are different from us unfairly or badly.

So did Obama's action encourage more racial strife? No, the racism was already there. Obama's action tries to alleviate it.

Did the action 'demonize' cops? No. Those cops and many others around the country have done a pretty good job demonizing themselves by needlessly attacking, subduing and killing unarmed people of color.

In fact, that's the thing here I worry about most. The cops are already in a high state of alert all over the nation, adrenaline pumping, heads filled with the conservative meme that there's now a 'war on cops.' They are closing ranks and reacting even more fearfully to unarmed people, using far more force than they need to use. The police in this nation need big changes in leadership, and big changes in policy. Get rid of the tanks, demilitarize, and eschew the current philosophy of stomp until it totally submits, even if it dies, in favor of the old philosophy of 'serve and protect.' It's got to be tough to be a cop, but the killing of unarmed people has to stop. The excessive force has to stop.

Inviting Ahmed to the White House was a great thing to do because it highlights the stupidity of fear based on race. It sends a message that there are many millions of people here in America who do not think like that, and that our President is one of them.
