Anonymous fundraisers and political strategists have come forward claiming that Hillary Clintons campaign is trying to put an end to Joe Bidens presidential run before it even begins.
According to the sources, and reported by the Associated Press, Clintons team is trying to convince Party leadership and wealthy donors to pledge their support to her, thus preventing Joe Biden from having a fighting chance should he choose to enter the race.

(11,197 posts)but I think it will have little impact on Bernie's campaign. The old guard is unraveling, their secrets exposed. The debates will cinch the deal.

(1,539 posts)It is just a different ideology, power at any cost.
There is also no truth to what she says. The Clintons are only in it for themselves. During Bill's Presidency, they lost both Houses of Congress. In 2000, they lost the Presidency for 8 years. And we got a conservative controlled Supreme Court.

(6,048 posts)2000 stolen election. REALLY?!?

(1,539 posts)You can't steal an election unless it is very close. Remember Gore had to distance himself from Bill and Bush ran on restoring dignity to the White House. Bill found guilty of obstructing justice and losing his law license. Impeached by the House of Representatives and the Senate found the law breaking did not rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors.

(54,027 posts)The fact is, very very few candidates can get into office without doing the bidding of corporate interests. The main difference with the Democrats is that they have to keep the unions happy too.
But it is a darn shame that we are effectively helpless before the power of the artificial entities known as corporations.
Don't wish to insult anyone by stating the obvious, but "we" created them so "we" can dismantle or, at least, amend them (or our system) so that candidates don't require tens of millions of dollars to run for office. It's a choice, not an asteroid.
I am so stealing that line
What we presently have is more like a hemorrhoid.

(179 posts)It's interesting that nobody's mentioned Gore yet. He seemed to be leaning into the race back in 2008 before finally leaning back out of it. But he would still be a force to be reckoned with, and despite his corporate credentials, he also has a shred of street cred with progressives on things like climate change. Like Biden, he would have a lot of ground to make up, but he would be an immediate and grave threat to Hillary Clinton's chances. And compared to Biden and Bernie, I think he'd have a more realistic chance to win the White House.

(613 posts)Will likely keep Gore from entering. He's been vilified by many mainstream and his numbers are not good. He'd have a hard time getting the bucks to run.

(179 posts)I think a lot depends on how far Hillary tumbles and what becomes of the emails. Hillary started out months ago as the former Sec of State who had, Bengazi conspiracy theories aside, rehabilitated her image. She had gone from a calculating opportunist and insider to a stateswoman. Now all of that has changed and then some in a short span of time, and while it remains doubtful that any crimes have been committed, the fact is that she's going to be dealing with this for an indefinite period of time, probably well into her run.
Meanwhile, for all the excitement about Bernie, he's not a mainstream candidate. He could become more of one, but he's not one. He's not going to win the White House.
That leaves Biden, who has some admirers but Gore probably has more.

(613 posts)As an outsider (Canadian) looking in, I think Hillary needs to read the signs. She has seen them before.
Out of the gate she's flying, and then all of a sudden some guy starts gaining wild popularity (Obama then, Saunders now) and captures the imagination of the voters. In both situations, the young appear to be flocking elsewhere, away from her.
In both cases, the Wingnuts on the other side are looking crazier, and will likely nominate some wishy-washy talking head (maybe even the same one as before) to challenge.
Over a year before the campaign is really going, and the cracks in her ceiling have begun to show.
Much as I'd like to see a woman in the White House, I doubt its Hillary (except maybe as Vice President to Biden, Saunders would not be able to pick her and remain anti corporate).
He best bet might be to back off, and get behind Biden.
Sorry, but I don't see her getting to the presidency, except by the VP door. If she becomes the Dem nominee, Saunders could well go Indy, especially if Trump does the same on the other side, and win.

(5,954 posts)But honestly, a JOE BIDEN/ELIZABETH WARREN 2016 ticket would KICK THE ASS OF EVERYBODY and ANYBODY on the planet! That would essentially be the DEMOCRATIC PARTY DREAM TEAM.

(53,035 posts)All Biden's votes for the credit card industry is a vote for the common man? And of course his vote for the Iraq War just doesn't matter. I'm going to need a chart to keep track of all the sectors of the economy that don't count as corporate. We all ready know that Big Gun and the Military Industrial Complex are exempt from scorn (eg. the $700 billion to Lockheed-Martin for the combustible F-35). But now even the ill of usury (in comparison to the public good of profiting from murder) is not universal. It seems that the only corporations that count as corporate are the ones that operate on a single street in NY City. Funny how that works. What exactly is the principle that runs through all these exemptions?
Jill Biden said two weeks ago that her husband would not be running. The press has made all of this up in order to keep their horse race story alive and avoid covering actual issues.

(2,397 posts)Biden wouldn't last long enough to name a VP-based on his ability to sustain party donors. But it sure would a beautiful thing to have him jump in--thus raining on Clinton's parade. That's what the guy said in the video--all to sustain that corporate dem's power structure. This country has had enough of that already. And that my friends is a "big F'ing deal."
