Strict restaurant laws have killed street food here. With the street food went any sort of street life. Now street life consists of alcoholics staggering around, puking on the sidewalk and screaming at the traffic.

Food safety laws really need to be relaxed a bit to allow street food. Once you start selling the food, the whole street comes to life as a public place to come together.
