(53,235 posts)I was raised in the "people are going hungry in China" years, so I never waste food I buy and am appalled that people call leftovers "used food."
Oliver targets many ignored issues and provides a real education to his viewers. AND he's hilarious! He's a gem.
I Oliver.

(6,096 posts)My friend works at Hyvee..and they used to let her take old, bad? vegetables and fruits home to her sanctuary of animals, birds, owls, racoons, ducks and geese...and they stopped because of some fucking rule by Hyvee which was sent down from hyvee Heaven -- in their glass houses..and she doesn't have the money to buy all the food for them...she also got stale bread and crackers..
Such a shame...the animal FLOCK to her home and land, it's almost as if the know she is their friend and a part of nature that is wonderful.

(17,796 posts)was always in trouble for letting crew take home what would have been waste. We were just going to throw it out, and my crew wasn't getting jack for pay, so if they wanted to take a meal home I let them.

(6,096 posts)My sons, when teens, worked at a restaurant FAMOUS for their pies. Tippens, then Pippens, or Vice versa,
and after so many days they had to scrap the pies, cakes, and at thanksgiving time all the young staff
would stack all the cakes and pies CAREFULLY out by the dumpster and mother would drive to pick up their
kids and take them home.
I would take them to work. 3 days old I believe...they were to die for.
I always wondered why they couldn't take them to the homeless shelters....my God...the things we used to eat
and share when I was a kid over 60 years ago...they act like it will kill us now.
My mother would always lay the turkey out bare overnight to thaw.and blood would run down the slope of the
counter....I can remember that countless times...now I have to laugh at soe of the wonderful things we experienced
as kids.
It's a shame how much food is wasted!
