(57 posts)Have these people been protesting and interrupting the Republican candidates? I haven't seen those stories.
panfluteman
(2,066 posts)that the Republicans are a lost cause, that they're so racist and bigoted that they aren't even worth disrupting. But I believe that there is probably a lot more subterfuge and foul play behind the scenes in all this than meets the eye.

(13,886 posts)I've been tossing this incident around in my head for several days now trying to understand why I was offended by the protest. I hadn't really thought it through. When Ferguson happened I was shocked by the military-type presence of the police. Then I saw that the police all over the country have been militarized. My reaction then was-this is a police state. Somehow I lost track of that along the way. Black communities are at ground zero of the police state-they are being directly, on a day to day basis subjected to its brutality. They are on the front lines if you will. The question that wasn't asked, and cannot be asked of any candidate in this country by the media is, "Do you believe we have instituted a type of military police state here in the US?" Bernie might agree but he has to address it in terms of economic justice. The rest of the candidates would deny it exists. BLM is alerting America as to what is happening but we refuse to listen or refuse to believe it is taking place.

(8,209 posts)But Bernie is not the person to direct that to.
Don't kill the messenger,
An economic system that includes everyone is a huge place to start.

(13,886 posts)Economic changes won't change the police state we have come to accept. Look at Occupy, Fergusson, Oakland, etc. We see it when it happens then pretend it isn't really happening after the fact. It's an issue that is never raised by the media because officially, it isn't happening.
Pharaoh
(8,209 posts)the way it happened did not help the cause.

(13,886 posts)BLM is outraged by what they see happening to people in their communities. I don't blame them. I think Bernie is our best hope but I'm not holding my breath.

(6,419 posts)without that, the protesters look ridiculous.
I don't hold to any intra-party conspiracy theories. It doesn't take a conspiracy for people to be ridiculous. I blame some of the academic BS that some of the protesters have in their background.

(3,732 posts)But I'm outraged Hillary wasn't there to share the fallout equally.
I'm also suspicious that this was deliberate since Hillary's team has made such a big deal of separating the social from the economic and trying to paint Bernie as out of touch with the social.
Because Hillary has such a spectacular amount of money to work with, I think some of it could have easily ended up in a pot to encourage #BLM leaders to hit Netroots Nation, and Hillary could have been warned to stay away.
In 2008 Hillary's people were very avid to generate the idea that Obama would cost people jobs. Samantha Power called Hillary "a monster" over this during an interview in Scotland: http://www.scotsman.com/news/hillary-clinton-s-a-monster-obama-aide-blurts-out-attack-in-scotsman-interview-1-1158300
Power ended up having to apologize over the remark, but that apology was the politics - the remark is what Power actually thought was happening: Hillary's team using every means possible to paint Obama in a negative way during the primaries. During this primary, Hillary's team wants a rift between Bernie and #BlackLivesMatter. This Netroots Nation event gets that rift high profile and on camera. It's hard not to believe that it wasn't at least encouraged if not directly paid for.

(2,066 posts)SHE really needs to do HER homework to see that, not only does Bernie have a long and stellar record in fighting for racial equality in this country - even more than that, he is zeroing in on the core economic issues that oppress the vast majority of Americans, and the root causes of racial and socioeconomic strife: the illusion of scarcity, that there's not enough to go around, which sets one racial or ethnic group against another. And who knows? She could have been put up to it by the Hillary camp.

(3,732 posts)On Wed Jul 22, 2015, 01:14 PM an alert was sent on the following post:
Yeah, That Black Lady Who Was Interviewed Was So Ignorant and Arrogant
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1017&pid=280627
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Just, ewwwwwww. This is positively dripping in condescension towards African-Americans. Why not just call the woman uppity while they're at it.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Wed Jul 22, 2015, 01:25 PM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Arg, I hate trolls like this. He is using genuine economic points any Bernie supporter would make, and the suspicion about the Hillary camp set up which I have myself, and using it to back blatant racism - thus trying to make Bernie supporters look like racists and drive a wedge in the forum for Democrats. I agree he slipped through the MIRT net.
If geek tragedy was the one who alerted, I don't think "anti-vaxxer" is grounds for calling someone a troll. During that whole affair I tried to warn people that was going to turn into a home schooling problem down the road, and I still think it will. There are people who are against vaccinations all over the political spectrum and plenty on DU, so that in itself almost counts as a disruptive, hurtful comment. Give it a rest.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't think so.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Just because a lady is black doesn't mean she can't be wrong and/or arrogant. I don't see any drippings here.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(68,868 posts)there are racist assholes on the left, not as many as there are on the right, but they definitely exist.

(3,732 posts)I believe your original impression of a MIRT escapee is correct, and it stuns me a majority of the jury didn't see that.

(3,732 posts)but...seriously?
Obviously meant to put Bernie supporters under race-baiting heading.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)maybe I would have understood the problem better.
I voted to leave and I apologize as I simply didn't see the racism there and had no prior knowledge of that poster.
I saw he or she was criticizing a black lady but that doesn't in and of itself mean racist to me.
But now that you mention anti-vaxx woo and I see that astrology bullshit i gotta wonder what other goofy shit they believe.
I am guilty of not taking my jury duty seriously enough to investigate more competently the nature of the complaint. I am sorry.

(68,868 posts)I just thought that identifying someone by race in order to insult them--just ewwww , as I said.
That's some amazing woo you uncovered there, should be called 'woow' (combination of woo and wow)

(29,047 posts)No, it wasn't the most perfect protest in the history of civil rights, but so what? They're letting their representatives know what they are passionate about, and I think that is a good thing.
