1. Reflections on the State of the World, and Bernie Sanders' Presidential Campaign

I suppose that there is a case to be made that foreign affairs is not Bernie's strong point - and neither has he spent much time talking about it. Bernie's main focus is on getting our own political and economic house in order - and that is undoubtedly the most urgent and pressing business we need to take care of as a nation, before we run around the world getting involved in, or trying to solve, other nations' problems.

Bernie has a good point in that the Muslim nations should step up to the plate and play a more active role, both militarily as well as diplomatically and politically, in solving the region's problems, and fighting for the Soul of Islam. Well, why in the world don't they? Is it just that they have gotten used to "letting George do it", and cynically leave all of that to us, instead of doing it themselves? Or, do they take the attitude that "George started it, so he has to finish it" - and I'm talking about George W. and his ill conceived invasion of Iraq here. But still, it is amazing how oblivious countries like Saudi Arabia are regarding the severe instability in their region - you'd think that, just out of sheer self interest, they would want to play a more proactive role in stabilizing things - whether that be militarily, diplomatically or politically.

Does anyone else have other thoughts and reflections to add here?

I wished we would get out of that region, period.

In many ways we are fighting a proxy war for Iran and
SaudiArabia, which suits them just fine.
The problem is that the Saudis support ISIS indirectly,
and I believe Turkey does as well; I don't see anything
more there than a perpetual war, which we should withdraw
from as soon as we can.

Of course, there is the oil ..........
